Matcha Green Tea Powder - Japanese Ceremonial Grade

40 grams in Miron Violet Glass

What is Matcha Green Tea Powder?

Matcha is powdered green tea leaves which have been carefully prepared to provide a potent superfood that is much more nutritionally dense than regular green tea. What makes our matcha truly special is that we source it directly from Japan’s Uji province, in area that is famed for producing some of the highest quality organic green tea leaves in the world. The whole matcha leaves are slowly stone-ground into a smooth vivid green powder that’s full of goodness and ready to be enjoyed.

Early uses of matcha green tea date back to the Tang Dynasty in China when it was steamed and made into tea bricks. Matcha was also traditionally used by Japanese monks in Zen monasteries to aid mental alertness during long periods of meditation.

What Does Ceremonial-Grade Mean?

Matcha is graded into several categories based on factors such as its growing location and conditions, as well as the quality of the leaves. Common types of graded powders include cooking, kitchen, and culinary-grades which are designed to be used as an ingredient and added to foods and drinks. Ceremonial-grade is a label reserved for the highest quality tea powders which are used in special Japanese tea ceremonies. It’s distinct because it’s made from stone-ground young green tea leaves, has a brilliant spring green color, and a delicate naturally sweet and smooth taste.

What is Miron Glass?

Our matcha green tea is packaged in Miron violet glass, which is a high-quality container that shields the powder from the harmful effects of UV light in order to maintain its freshness. The beautiful glass container is reusable and recyclable, which helps to make this green powder green-friendly too. After you have finished with your matcha you can reuse the jar by filling it with oils, lotions, or snacks. While the jar does provide a lot of protection, we still recommend storing your matcha powder in a cool, dry place to help further extend its shelf-life.

How Do I Use Matcha Green Tea?

Just add a quarter to half a teaspoon of the powder to a bowl or cup and pour it over hot (never boiling) water. Use a mini kitchen whisk or traditional bamboo implement called a chasen to make a delicious frothy and silky smooth drink with a delicate taste. Tip: if you don’t have a whisk to hand, you can also froth it up in your blender. You can add a dash of coconut milk and then refrigerate the liquid to make an iced green tea latte which is perfect for sipping on in the Summer (see below for the matcha recipe). Matcha is much-loved by yogis, and its a lovely, calming ritual to prepare a warm cup of matcha and enjoy it before your morning yoga practice.

A little goes a long way with our matcha powder, so we recommend starting with just 1/4 of a teaspoon when making mug of frothy matcha tea. You can then adjust the matcha dose according to your tastes. Matcha can be quite a strong pick-me-up, so it's best enjoyed in the morning or afternoon but not right before bed.

Matcha’s other culinary uses are only limited to your imagination, as this versatile powder can also be added to ice creams, smoothies, juices, elixirs, cookies, energy balls, sauces, and other delectable treats. You can also sprinkle the powder over smoothie bowls and deserts to beautify them and add some extra nutrition.

Did you Know? Matcha Facts

Ceremonial grade matcha can contain up to 120 times more antioxidants than green tea.

It's best not to add dairy-based milk to your cup of matcha, as this can neutralise the beneficial effects of the catechin. Instead, choose to use a plant-based milk such a coconut milk or cashew milk.

The first recorded use of matcha tea as we know it today dates way back to the 12th century.

Ceremonial grade matcha is grown with restricted sunlight as it approaches harvesting time, as this helps to increase the amount of chlorophyll in the leaves.

    The Best, It Really Works

Posted by AW on 8th Jan 2020

I first purchased this product from Hybrid Herbs on Amazon in Dec 2017. I fell in love with it immediately as I had energy all day without feeling like I need a nap. When I needed my refill purchase it was no longer available on Amazon so I googled Hybrid Herbs and found their online store. Man, was I happy. I have been purchasing my Match Powder from this company in bulk ever since, I have to have a cup every morning before breakfast to start my day off right.
I have never been disappointed with my purchase, delivery is prompt, and customer service is A+.
I cannot live without my Matcha.
Thank you Hybrid Herbs for making such high quality matcha powder available on the market.

    Awesome Tea

Posted by AW on 5th May 2018

I love, love, love this brand of Matcha Powder. It gives me clean energy that last all day long!!! I am not a coffee drinker so when I learnt about Matcha Tea I did my research and was sold on this brand based on reviews on Amazon. Amazon was out so I purchased directly from Hybrid's website. I was not disappointed.

The only negative I have is that my first purchase did not require sifting the powder, but my second purchase did. I purchase 3 containers each time I buy. Awaiting my third purchase so I'll see if I'll need to sift that batch too.

I gave this product 5 stars because of the flavor, and each batch I have purchased taste the same. It is bitter, but I don't mind taste once it is something that is good for my health. Matcha not only gives you clean energy but it's health benefits far outweighs coffee and even green tea bags.

I had a friend of mine tried it and he fell in love with his first cup. Now he'll be having his daily cup of Matcha tea too!!!!!

    Happy Repeat Customer

Posted by Shauna G. on 20th Apr 2018

I have been purchasing this lovely Matcha from Hybrid Herbs for a while, even back when they were on Amazon. Why would anyone want to purchase this wonderful tea in plastic or metal? Exceptional color of any Matchas I've seen. Recently, there were some issues with my last order, but customer service was outstanding!

    First time

Posted by Steph on 1st Feb 2017

This is my first time trying matcha. The color is a beautiful emerald green and the froth it forms is almost creamy. It's the way it should be from all I've read. The color is electric just as it is in the photos. This is an excellent company, the product arrived before the tracking information was listed! FAST shipping. I can't wait to try other products.
